We had the opportunity to visit Six Flags Fright Fest again this year to visit their new houses, and here is our review from writer Elizabeth Ellis!
Finkelstein’s House of Fun
While interviewing the park president, he stated this was his favorite due to its originality and intensive theming, and we had not wrong! This was honestly my favorite house this year. Overall, the house had top notch theming with a variety of areas and scares. My favorite area was a black light area where it felt like you were outside walking through a graveyard before entering another part of the house. While it is not necessarily a scary house, it’s still a fun time with some well timely placed scares. The length of the attraction was about 7 minutes long.
Infestation
The other new house is Infestation which was housed in the same location of the pitch black haunt from last year. If you hate bugs, particularly roaches and spiders, this is not the house for you. I want to give a personal shoutout to the actress who was playing the older lady at the beginning of the house that sets up for the plot. She does a phenomenal job of setting the scene of what is about to go down in this house. While it is the shortest house of the bunch this year standing at 3.5 minutes, it is a fun time looking at the roaches and seeing the poor pest control agents trying to kill the bugs.
Two of the IP houses have made a return to sfog this year: Saw and Conjuring. I will briefly discuss those as they are practically the same as last year. The only exceptions are that it seems like the Saw house was a tad bit darker to the point where I struggled to see where I was. Additionally, the Conjuring house seems darker in some areas as people struggled to see where the path leads and some of the actors had to redirect guests to the right path. Again, both are great houses and fun additions to fright fest and I loved the attention to storytelling in The Conjuring. It also happened to be Ryan’s favorite house this year. My only nitpick is to decrease the amount of people let in at a time or expand the rooms so that there is greater space for the storytelling scenes to play out without people still being in a previous room.
Unfortunately we were unable to do Camp Slasher this year due to a delay from the weather and did not open until after we left for the night. If you want a fun indoor/outdoor hybrid experience I highly recommend checking out camp slasher if it’s anything like last year. It’s the campy horror house and is one of the two goriest houses.
Also- a note for attendees:
One thing that is new this year for fright fest is that you are required to have a QR code to scan into each of the houses. From what I saw a lot of people struggled to figure out which QR code they needed to scan in order to get into the haunts. I have a feeling that this will get easier throughout the season and seems like a good idea for gaining access to the haunt. Make sure your device is charged so that you can access your favorite haunts!
