The Darkness Review | St. Louis, MO

The Darkness is widely considered as one of the top haunted house attractions in the country, and for good reason. I’ve been to the attraction before three years ago for a behind the scenes tour, but this was the first time I have been through the attraction with live actors. They were doing a special event opening for the Transworld convention this weekend.

From the second you walk in the doors of the attraction, it is incredible immersive and detailed. Everything from the props, walls, sets, and costuming is designed with immaculate Hollywood-level detail that truly immerses guests into the terror. The attraction covers a variety of different fears and themes and each room is crafted with so much detail that it is impossible to catch everything on one walkthrough. Additionally, from pictures and memories of my previous walkthrough experience, the attraction looks and feels entirely new. A few animatronics I remembered from last time, but the pathway and rooms are clearly updated, as it felt like it was the first time I have ever experienced the attraction.

Something that stands out to me at this attraction is the amount of huge animatronics. While a lot of haunted houses have animatronics now, this haunted attraction has some of the largest I have ever seen. The Frankenstein monster animatronic and manor was a highlight of the experience for me, as well as several of the upstairs areas which feature very realistic special effects.

Overall, I really enjoyed going through The Darkness. It seems as though every square inch of the attraction is thoughtfully crafted and designed specifically for Halloween fanatics. It remains one of the best big budget attractions I have ever been to, on par with attractions like Netherworld and 13th Gate.
