For Halloween night this year, I went to The Farm of Fears in Cartersville, Georgia.
This is the second year that the haunted attraction has been running and it is my first time going to experience it.
Once arriving into the event space, they have an area with bonfires, concessions, and tables where guests wait for their group number to be called. I like the set up of this so you’re not being forced to stand in line a long time. It is very similar to the way Camp Blood in Carrollton is run.
Once my number was called, I went into the attraction. It starts with what I would call mostly a dark maze. Most of the first part of this attraction is completely dark, and there are quite a large number of actors in this area as well as the rest of the attraction. Something I really appreciate about this area is the amount of actors that they have. While the props and sets are minimal throughout this area and the rest of the attraction, they have a lot of actors and the jump scares are effective. The costumes and makeup of the actors were really well done too!
After going through the dark maze area, they have a little bit of a haunted trail where you walk through different scenes. I like how the actors in this area were all interactive in those scenes they were assigned to. This area also has one of my favorite parts with strobe light effects and multiple prop/stationary manikins with costumes. This scene was probably the most effective and creepiest of the haunted attraction, and while I have seen this done before similarly at other attractions, this one was a really good example.
My favorite part of the attraction was the final part which is where you walk through a corn field with lots of jump scare actors. This part was really fun and I found it to be unique since most attractions don’t get to utilize a real outdoor corn “maze” area.
Overall, I enjoyed this attraction. It is the second year and I think the haunt is really well done for a newer attraction but also has a lot of potential to grow in the future. The attraction overall was pretty short, running at 12 minutes. One thing I would love to see in the future is just expanding the haunt, particularly the trail, some more. I also think that the corn walkthrough area would be even better if it was set up as a maze and not a one way path.
If you are a fan of haunted house attractions that have a lot of actors, do not rely on animatronics and big props, I think you will really enjoy this one! I personally enjoy haunted houses that have more special effects, animatronics, and detailed set design, but I’m not necessarily saying that in a negative way. I am certain there are a lot of people who would enjoy this haunted attraction more than an attraction like Netherworld just because they prefer a more “old school” haunted house attraction that focuses more on actors and human interaction.
I would recommend visiting The Farm of Fears, I look forward to coming back in the future to see how they have grown.
