I attended New Orleans Nightmare Halloween weekend and was super excited to check it out. I have been to Nashville Nightmare, which is one of my favorite haunts of all time. Both haunts are created by 13th Floor Entertainment Group, so I was really excited to see what their New Orleans show.
I really enjoyed New Orleans Nightmare, but feel like I set really high expectations, which left me a little disappointed. While the show is very well done, I did not like it as much as Nashville Nightmare. The sets at Nashville Nightmare completely blew me away, throughout its entire one-hour walk through, but New Orleans Nightmare was a bit different. It is a bit shorter than Nashville Nightmare and is actually in the old House of Shock Haunted House.
New Orleans Nightmare bought out House of Shock a few years ago and although I can not confirm this, I feel like they reused some of the scenes. While this show definitely had some incredible sets and effects, there were a few aspects that were not as impressive. There were sections of the haunt where the props and sets looked worn, like they have been reused from House of Shock and not changed.
It seemed evident which scenes were completely redone and which scenes looked older. While there were several impressive scenes, it was a little disappointing when some areas did not have as much detail.
I loved all the nun scenes they built outside as well as the cavern scenes. I also enjoyed the part of the show where it felt like you were walking through a town. However, the clown house for example, lacked detail and just had a couple large animatronic props that seemed to take up space that could have been used for other things.
I was still impressed by their show overall. It is evident that when 13th Floor puts in the time and effort, they can build some really incredible scenes. I would love if they changed just a few areas of their show and added some details.
There are several scenes here that stood out and I thought were creepy. They also had quite a few effective jump scares and the actors were great. I also loved the atmosphere of the show and the façade of the building, as we were waiting in the queue!
Bonus: I did the Phobia Sensory experience after going through the main show and loved it. I don’t want to spoil much but it was really unique and different from any other show I have been through. It had the feel of an escape room but a more unique twist to it.
