Scarehouse of the South- Review (2022)

To kick off the 2022 Haunt Season, we went to Scare House of the South in Gillis Springs, GA. It is about a three hour drive and about 6 years since I have been to their show. I’ve been wanting to go back for years and the past couple years their show was closed. I was so excited that they reopened this year, so we made a trip down south to see their show.

Although this is our first haunt of the season, I can easily say it’s going to be a contender for best haunt of the year in our awards. This is a great show, and it’s even better than it was years ago. This show made quite a comeback after their hiatus.

First of all, the show is HUGE. At a 40min walkthrough time, this is one of the biggest haunts I have ever been to.

You start in an old house, which in itself is pretty big, but after that there is so much more to see. I loved the setup of this show. The atmosphere of the entire haunt is awesome. It has the feel of a classic haunted house/trail, but is much more unique and extreme.

There is so much to see and no matter what you like about haunted houses, there is something here for everyone. Some things I loved about this haunt were the atmosphere, creativity, and the extreme nature of the show.

The show has a lot of warnings- showing that it is rated R and not recommended for kids. It states you will encounter profanity and mature content. There is a lot at this haunt I have never seen at any other haunts, making it one of the most wildest haunt experiences ever.

Something else I loved about the haunt is how there was a mix between a traditional walk through show and scenes. There were multiple spots where you stop in the haunt and a scene happens before continuing the walkthrough. I loved this aspect of the haunt.

I also loved the seemless flow from one scene to the next. There was so much to see, but it never felt too overwhelming. While I love shows like Netherworld, sometimes it feels hard to see everything because there is so much going on. This show has the perfect balance of offering a lot to see, but not to the point it is overwhelming and hard to take in.

I particularly loved how the outdoor building/structures flowed into one another, with some awesome outdoor scenes as well. There was one part where you start in a shack looking building and end up walking through and out of a real bus. It was so creative. The team here is very passionate in what they do.  The actors were all incredible as well.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but my favorite part about this show was it’s extreme nature. It had some mature content I have never seen in other shows and I thought it was a great touch to add in. Some of the scenes were traumatic and terrifying. Some scenes were really funny and entertaining. There was a perfect balance of both. In addition, this mature/adult content did not feel like it was there “just because” it was seamlessly integrated into the show and worked well with the themes of the haunt.

This is going down as one of my favorite haunt attractions of all time. Make sure you go check it out. I’ve been to a ton of haunted houses over the southeast. I can easily say this isn’t just one of the best haunts in Georgia. It is one of the best haunts in the southeast.

We give S.H.O.T.S a solid 10/10 Stars
