This year, Nightmare’s Gate offers two attractions. The first theme stays the same each year with the Haunted Hospital, but this year they added a second attraction Terror Falls.
Starting with the Haunted Hospital, this attraction was incredible as always. There were new rooms added this year and the path changed a bit, making for an updated haunt experience. The first room in the haunt is really cool aesthetically and scare-wise, as it is every year. The entire haunt itself is very well put together. There are multiple rooms that have a maze-like effect and it makes you feel immersed in the attraction. There are a couple really cool scenes in this show that come to mind- one where you enter the next scene by going through a bathroom stall and entrance through a refrigerator/freezer door- the way both of these are executed is really well done, and they flow seamlessly from one scene to the next.
And when I use the word “seamless” in my reviews, it’s important to note that as a sign of excellence because I don’t throw it out there. Almost all haunts have multiple scenes/rooms, but only the best can create a seamless flow from scene to scene, and Nightmares Gate does that.
I must also mention the cast is excellent this year and the special effects are great. Nothing at this show feels cheesy... the gore and makeup looks real and the set designs are top notch.
The second add-on show Terror Falls is impressive, and considering the short time frame they had to build, it is a decent length walk through wise. This haunt is shorter than the first, at about 10mins compared to the first haunt being about 20mins.
The set design in Terror Falls is remarkable and although there are not as many actors in this show, it does not feel like it is missing anything- this show is worth visiting for the set design alone.
There is immense attention to detail in this attraction. The “swinging bridge” scene is beautifully done and the jump scares are placed perfectly.
It is evident that the creative team at Nightmare’s Gate is not only passionate about building haunts- they have truly mastered the art of doing so.
Nightmare’s Gate is high on my list when I think of the best haunts in the Southeast, and I definitely recommend visiting both of their attractions.
